#NosotrasParamos (Us Women We Stand/We Stop) is a female-driven labour strike that occurred Wednesday, October 19th across Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and participating individuals around the world. This demonstration protests machismo, heteronormativity and other expressions of deeply-embedded social, cultural, gender and economic inequity.
Along with friends and fellow Latinx artists Dana Prieto (ARG) and Jessica De Vittoris (MEX), we organized a stand-in at OCAD University to reject the silence against gender-based violence to stand together in solidarity with #NosotrasParamos.
Dana facilitated an interactive sewing workshop where participants cut out fist/heart-shaped pieces of fabric representing the victims of the femicides and sewed them together in an act of collective healing, support and awareness.
Jessica and I collected information and resources and put together a series of pamphlets for passerbys to take home.
This is an expanding conversation around the intersecting aspects of gender-based violence as well as global and local demonstrations of solidarity, love and care to end this horrific systemic problem.
We encourage you to participate on social media by sharing photos, articles and stories with #NosotrasParamos.
You can find & download an online copy of the pamphlet here
